Spiders are common in homes during warm weather, although they can be found indoors any time.
Their numbers usually peak during late summer and fall, during their mating season.
There are some spiders we need to be wary of: brown recluse, black widow hobo and yellow sacks.
These are all common in the Inland Northwest.
Black widows especially like crawl spaces in homes.
Spider control is usually challenging.
Properties located in areas favorable to spiders, such as by rivers, lakes, or fields, are more likely to have large numbers of spiders.
Bed bugs are parasites that feed on the blood of people and certain animals, and they require these blood meals to grow and reproduce.
They live close to areas where people typically sleep, rest, or sit for long periods.
Hungry bugs will move out from their hiding places, in search of a blood meal.
Once an appropriate host is found, they feed for 2 to 5 minutes until full, and then move quickly away from the person.
Feeding generally happens between 1 and 3 a.m.
Regular travelers can, without knowing it, bring back these unwanted pests on their clothes and in suitcases and bags.
Cockroaches are downright pre-historic and dirty.
They live everywhere and prefer to feed on the same food that we do.
They love to get established in kitchens and bathrooms.
An adult American Cockroach is a red-brown color with lighter colored edges around the body and grows to about 1 to 1 1/2 inches.
Adult German Cockroaches measure around 1/4 to 5/8 inches long and can be easily recognized by the two dark, longitudinal stripes on the "shield" at the front of the body under which the head is located.
